Mikkel Damsgaard joined Brentford from Sampdoria in August 2022 and struggled in his first two seasons with the English club. To put it in context, the attacking midfielder failed to score and registered three assists for the Bees up until the end of last season.
The Denmark international has improved his form at Brentford this season, scoring three goals and registering 10 assists from 34 matches. Thomas Frank’s side have rewarded him with a new contract.
On January 22nd, Damsgaard renewed his contract at Brentford until 2030, with an option for another year.
Tipsbladet state the player has secured a ‘lucrative deal’.
Denmark manager Brian Riemer has included Damsgaard in his squad for March’s fixtures and is pleased with his form for Brentford.
The Brentford star is currently with the national team, and that gave local reporters an opportunity to have a chat with him. Damsgaard believes the extension shows the Bees’ faith in him.
“Of course, it’s great to get the contract and to get an offer from the club that shows that they really believe in me,” he said, relayed by Tipsbladet.
The Dane has explained why the decision he took in January was easy for him.
“I’m really happy to be at Brentford, so it was easy for me. I’m in a good place and have now played a little bit more than half a good season. So, I wanted to stay at Brentford,” Damsgaard explained.
When asked if he had received offers from other clubs, he said: “No, nothing crazy.”
