“I’m prepared for something new” – Manchester United player set for summer exit, considering options

Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen has less than four months left on his contract and his future beyond this season will be away from Old Trafford.

He’s currently with the Denmark squad preparing for the two UEFA Nations League games against Portugal this month.

The Danish media had a chat with the Manchester United player and his comments are relayed by Tipsbladet.

It was no surprise to see the 33-year-old being asked about his future. When responding to that, he was honest in admitting that he’s likely leave Manchester United in the summer.

“I haven’t thought about it that much. It’s the same principle as last time, the contract expires in the summer, so in my head I’m prepared to find something new. I’m actually fine with that, whatever it is, it’s not something I’ve decided yet,” he said.

The Denmark international hasn’t yet made a decision on where he wants to move next. He could attract several clubs due to his status as a free agent in the summer window.

Eriksen spent five years at Ajax before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. The Dutch club were credited with an interest in him last summer, which was confirmed by their sporting director, Alex Kroes.

The Dane was asked whether he could return to Ajax after leaving Manchester United.

“No, I’m not closing the door on anything,” Eriksen explained.

“I’ll see what comes up and whether it’s something that fits. That was last summer. We’ll have to see where they stand this summer. Of course, it’s also about the interest from the other side and not just from the player.”

The Manchester United player hasn’t played at the highest level in Denmark. As of now, he has no plans of returning to his country.

“I don’t know either, it’s hard to say [on returning to Denmark]. Maybe sooner, yes, and a little later, no. So, it changes a little from day to day, how you stand. But again, that’s the future. I can’t say what will happen in the future. But right now, no,” he added.

When asked what is “right” for him, Eriksen explained that the move has to suit both him and his family. What’s near-certain for now is that Eriksen’s future after this season is set to be away from Manchester United.

“I don’t know that either. I haven’t made any firm decision that I’m going to do this or that,” the Dane said.

“Earlier in my career, before I had the cardiac arrest, I had played in England for many years, and I was transferred abroad, to Inter, and then I thought I’m not going back to England. Two years later I came back to England, and now I’ve been there for almost four years.

“There are things you just can’t plan in your career, so I don’t have any things I really want to try. I’ll see what comes and what suits me and the family well.”
