Disgraced former WWE boss Vince McMahon doesn't make too many public appearances these days, but The Wrestling Observer noted that he was courtside for Monday's NBA game between Miami Heat and the New York Knicks. For reference, the basketball fixture was held at the timeless Madison Square Garden, which was a super-familiar haunt for McMahon during his time in charge of pro wrestling's market leader.

This was just the second public showing for Vince in recent months. He was in attendance for a Super Bowl LIX showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on 9 February. There, McMahon was pictured alongside such names as The Undertaker and his son Shane.

TV chyrons that flashed up during the NBA game referred to Vince as a "former wrestling promoter".

McMahon is currently battling allegations of sexual misconduct, trafficking and both emotional and physical abuse by former WWE employee Janel Grant. The lawsuit was first filed in January 2024, and has obviously been big news ever since. It rocked the pro wrestling world, and led to major changes at the top of WWE - that process had started anyway, but there was simply no way back for Vince after his behaviour began to surface.

The same month, January 2024, McMahon resigned as executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings; that parent company brought WWE and UFC together under the same corporate umbrella.

The lawsuit levied against Vince is still ongoing.

Rumours Of McMahon Starting His Own Company Persist

The rumour mill suggests that McMahon fancies launching a brand new company that'd run separately from WWE. According to this conjecture, Vince's new league would strike a deal to air exclusively on FOX. Some believed that's why McMahon was in town for Super Bowl LIX. Was he really there to discuss terms and thrash out a deal with network bigwigs?

FOX say no, he wasn't. The Observer previously reported that the station quickly shut down any ideas they were linked with McMahon last month. That firm decision to distance themselves from the disgraced ex-WWE kingpin hasn't quelled rumours that something is in the works on his side.

There had also been talk of McMahon actively seeking camera operators for his new startup, but the trail has gone cold on that more recently. That might well have something to do with FOX telling anyone who'll listen that they have nothing to do with any of it, or whatever Vince does get up to in the future.

FOX previously aired WWE SmackDown between October 4, 2019-September 6, 2024. The Friday night weekly has since moved to the USA Network. Meanwhile, flagship broadcast Raw has jumped from USA to Netflix in a hefty deal that bagged the promotion billions.
