Report: Saka new deal talks “expected to accelerate”

According to BBC Sport, Arsenal are set to open formal talks with Bukayo Saka over a new contract.

The 23-year-old England international has two years remaining on his current deal, but securing his long-term future is a priority for incoming sporting director Andrea Berta.

The Italian, whose appointment is expected to be confirmed next week, faces a busy summer, balancing transfer business with contract renewals for key players, including William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli, and Gabriel Magalhães.

Discussions are also needed regarding the futures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho, who are both out of contract this summer, as well as Leandro Trossard, whose deal runs until the end of next season.

Since breaking into the first team as a teenager, Saka has signed long-term contracts in 2020 and 2023. His last deal made him one of the club’s highest earners.

On the latest developments, Sami Mokbel – who recently joined the BBC from the Daily Mail – reports that “the process is expected to accelerate in the not-too-distant future.”

Saka hasn’t featured for the Gunners since undergoing surgery on a hamstring tear in November. He’s expected to use the Interlull to make a final push for full fitness and should be part of the squad that faces Fulham in two weeks.
