Railston: 'It's a lot of pressure' - Wayne Rooney is right about Manchester United youngster…

Heaven has looked remarkably composed.

How a player reacts when they go to ground with an injury is usually pretty telling and Manchester United youngster Ayden Heaven looked to be in great discomfort on Sunday.

Heaven was involved in a tangle with Leicester forward Patson Daka at the beginning of the second half and he required medical attention after the innocuous incident.

The defender eventually left the King Power Stadium with his right foot in a protective boot and Ruben Amorim said: "We will see. It’s hard to understand because even when he’s on the ground, he can’t speak, he doesn’t know how to explain what he’s feeling because he’s so young."

United are set to clarify Heaven's injury situation this week, but the fact he didn't visit the hospital and left in a protective boot must be seen as a positive ahead of that announcement.

It was a huge shame to see Heaven go down with an injury. The 18-year-old was excellent when he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal and he was able to follow that performance up with an even better display when he made his first start for United against Real Sociedad in Europe.

For such an inexperienced player, Heaven demonstrated remarkable maturity against Arsenal and Sociedad, and it was no surprise to see him retain his starting role against Leicester.

Supporters will be hoping for positive news on Heaven and it would be a blow for him to be ruled out for a lengthy spell after a breakthrough, but all of his best years are in front of him.

There were some raised eyebrows when sources described Heaven as a first-team signing in January, but it has become clear in the last few weeks why United considered him as such.

Although Heaven has only made a handful of appearances and expectations should be realistic, he's made a superb first impression and will be desperate to build on his performances.

There has been some interesting punditry on United this season, but Wayne Rooney has been one of the level-headed voices and he described Heaven as a "real coup" on Sunday evening.

Rooney told the BBC about Heaven: “Obviously, it is a huge football club, but at this time now where it is not maybe going right, to come in and play for Manchester United at 18 years old, it is a lot of pressure. Those expectations are on you from the first minute. But I think in the games he has played, I think he has been fantastic. I think he is a real coup for Manchester United.”

United fans will agree with Rooney's assessment, and the fee of £1.5million that was agreed to sign Heaven could leave Arsenal's transfer chiefs with egg on their faces in the next few years.

It seems United may have secured a bargain in the market, especially considering Heaven is a naturally left-footed centre-back.

United submitted bids to Everton in an attempt to sign left-footed Jarrad Branthwaite last summer, however, they were unsuccessful and looked at alternative candidates of the same profile.

Jonny Evans, another left-footed centre-back, is out of contract at the end of the season and it was important United signed a player in that mould. Heaven ticked all the boxes and it was hard to see any possible downside to a deal that cost around £1.5m, a nominal fee in the modern game.

It made sense to walk away from Branthwaite and take a punt on Heaven for the fees involved. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see Heaven might be a bargain but Rooney was right.

Heaven could be a genuine coup for United and everyone is hoping his injury is not serious.
