Northumberland National Park's Dan Burn tribute as trail renamed after Newcastle United hero

Elsdon Burn Walk has been temporarily renamed Big Dan Burn Walk

Northumberland National Park has renamed one of its walking trails after a local hero in Newcastle United's Carabao Cup win.

Elsdon Burn Walk has been temporarily renamed Big Dan Burn Walk, after the Blyth born defender scored in Sunday's victory at Wembley.

The Northumberland footballer was given the Man of the Match award after helping his club bring the trophy home, and the scenic Big Dan Burn Walk is now being used as 'a tribute to his remarkable contribution to the team and the inspiration that his story brings.'

Tony Gates, Chief Executive Officer at Northumberland National Park Authority said: "In an unprecedented and temporary move, Northumberland National Park Authority wanted to honour Dan’s incredible contribution to sport and culture in the region.

"Elsdon, once a place at the centre of defence in Border Reiver battles, seems like a fitting place to mark Dan’s and the whole teams’ heroic achievements.

"Northumberland National Park is a place as grand and expansive as Dan himself and if he ever wants a place to train, we have over 405 square miles where he will be made to feel very welcome."

This temporary renaming will run until April 2, when Newcastle United next play, so fans will be able to visit the trail named after their hero for the next couple of weeks.
