Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy has been one of the main reasons for the club’s downfall
Tottenham Hotspur have come under a lot of scrutiny this season. The club are sitting in 14th place in the Premier League, far below anyone must have expected them to be at the start of the season. But that is the reality and Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is to be blamed for most parts of where the club lies right now.
The Lilywhites have been knocked out of all domestic competitions but are still alive in the Europa League. Ange Postecoglou’s side reached the quarter-finals of the competition thanks to a second leg comeback win against AZ Alkmaar. However, it seems to be very tough that the North London club will go on to win the competition due to their poor form.
Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy has been one of the main reasons for the club's downfall.
But this has been the story for many years under the leadership of Daniel Levy. Tottenham have won just one major trophy ever since Levy took over the club in 2001. Spurs won the League Cup in 2008 after beating Chelsea 2-1 in the finals. That was the last major trophy the club won and the fans are running out of patience and calling for the Chairman to get sacked.
Ex-Spurs manager Redknapp defends Daniel Levy
Daniel Levy has been one of the main reasons why Tottenham Hotspur are nowhere near good enough to be challenging for any title. The Englishman has been at the forefront of many wrong decisions at the club and most of the fans have been tired of the mediocrity on show.
However, ex-Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has taken a bold stand and come on to the defence of the Spurs Chairman. As per HaytersTV, Redknapp said,
“He’s done a fantastic job. What can they do? They’ve spent money, he’s built a fantastic stadium, incredible training ground, it’s all there. They’ve spent more on the team. Have a look, they’ve all been bought. They’re all big-money players. Solanke was £60 million. They’ve spent money. Unfortunately, it’s not worked out for them.”
Harry Redknapp then went on to add,
“The recruitment maybe hasn’t been great in certain cases but they’ve still got a squad there really that should be challenging. I looked at their squad at the start of the year and said they are certain to finish top four. They’ve had injuries and they’re nowhere near top four unfortunately but winning this cup (Europa League) would hide a multitude of sins really if they could do it.”
Levy will be hoping that the club wins the Europa League this season. It will, in some way, turn the tide around regarding his spell at Tottenham Hotspur. However, it will not repair all the damage done in the last 24 years. The fans will not forget how badly the club is run, even if they go on to win some unlikely silverware in the future.
