Paul Scholes now optimistic of ‘a talent’ at Man Utd who he was ‘baffled’ by just a few months ago

Manchester United as a club have always floated between the two extreme ends of a spectrum and nowhere has that phenomenon been truer than in the analyses of Paul Scholes.

The Man Utd legend was one of the finest midfielders football has ever seen during his playing days but his punditry takes personify the club’s current form on the pitch!

Scholes’s criticism of Matthijs de Ligt is ageing terribly already, although that’s something he’s come around on himself.

In the same vein, he’s also dropped an optimistic take on a player who he was “baffled” by just a few months ago, going as far as to claim that he “doesn’t know what he does” on the pitch!

Paul Scholes sees ‘talent’ in Joshua Zirkzee

To be fair to Paul Scholes, in the case of Joshua Zirkzee, the fanbase has flipped as much on him as Scholes has which is a testament to the player’s mentality.

Zirkzee has managed to come back from what very few players in Man Utd history have ever had to suffer – getting booed off by Old Trafford.

Not only has he come back from it, but he’s done so in a new position while getting accustomed to a manager who didn’t sign him and playing a new system.

All this has been enough to convince Scholes that he should be optimistic about a player who used to “baffle” him.

Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes said of Zirkzee: “I agree, there’s a talent there. He doesn’t look like a goalscorer to me but he’ll bring people into play. Even Casemiro, last couple of weeks, improved.”

Joshua Zirkzee has found perfect role at Man Utd

Like Scholes said, Zirkzee might never be a player who scored 20 goals every season but he excels at what he is and is the type of player this Man Utd team needs.

His slick ball control and the perfect weight of pass have become United’s go-to method of breaking down deep defences and in some ways, he’s almost become a physical version of Christian Eriksen!

It can be argued that Amorim has found the perfect role for him despite the Dutchman not being a signing made under him.

That reflects well on both, the manager and the player, who have worked hard to identify what makes each other tick and succeed.

After all, getting praise out of Paul Scholes, especially as a Man Utd player, is not an easy thing to do!
