Overall, Robert Sanchez probably did not have his worst game in a Chelsea shirt against Arsenal over the weekend.
Sanchez made a couple of good saves and had Chelsea made their possession more meaningful, then they probably would have picked up at least a point.
However, the goalkeeper did make quite a big mistake in the first half, which he could have been punished for.
It is one of many that he has made this season, making Enzo Maresca‘s stance on the player very confusing. Chelsea will never win the title with Sanchez in goal, according to former Blue John Obi Mikel.

Robert Sanchez makes another error leading to a shot
Like Mikel, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has also been very critical of Sanchez. Wright was not impressed with Sanchez’s goalkeeping for Mikel Merino’s header, though the makeshift striker probably deserves some credit for the Gunners’ winner.
Before that, there was one moment in the game where Sanchez kicked the ball straight to Gabriel Martinelli, which resulted in a shot.
According to WhoScored, it was the eighth error that the Spaniard has made that has led to a shot this season. No player in the Premier League has committed more than him.

Chelsea could now try and sign a new goalkeeper in the summer, though they could end up missing out on Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher.
While the Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, a Chelsea bid for Kelleher is not guaranteed.
For now, despite the mistakes from Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, Maresca seems to be content with his goalkeeper options.

Enzo Maresca happy with Robert Sanchez
Despite another mistake at the Emirates over the weekend, Maresca is still happy with Sanchez.
When Maresca spoke about Sanchez after the match, he said: “I’ve been quite clear with the situation, with goalkeepers we are quite happy with them both, and today Robert was good.”
Again, in the 27-year-old’s defence, he did not do too much wrong after handing Martinelli a free shot. Wright’s criticism of him for Arsenal’s goal is a bit harsh; Merino’s header was just a clever one.
Still, Chelsea would really benefit from upgrading on the Spain international if they can. He has not convinced at all this season, making Maresca’s stance a truly baffling one.
