NFL Draft whiz predicts Drake Maye landing ‘potent weapon’ in latest mock

Daniel Jeremiah forecasted the Patriots seriously upgrading their high-end talent in his latest mock draft.

The NFL Network Draft whiz has New England drafting Travis Hunter at No. 4 overall. In Jeremiah’s mock draft 3.0, the Heisman winner falls into Mike Vrabel’s lap because the Titans take QB Cam Ward first, followed by DE Abdul Carter to the Browns, and the Giants taking QB Shedeur Sanders at No. 3 overall.

That leaves Hunter, who might be the most talented player in the draft, still sitting on the board when the Patriots are on the clock.

“Bolstering the offensive line would seem to be the obvious move here for the Patriots, but it would be tough to pass up such a unique talent like Hunter,” Jeremiah writes. “He would immediately be their most potent weapon for Drake Maye.”

If the Patriots drafted Hunter, it’d be fascinating to see how the star defensive back and wideout would be deployed. Experts believe Hunter is more likely to land at corner in the NFL, but the Patriots have a much greater need on the offensive side of the ball.

New England lacks both No. 1 and No. 2 wide receivers, while they have an All-Pro cornerback in Christian Gonzalez and just signed Carlton Davis as a solid second option. In an interview with the team website, EVP of player personnel Eliot Wolf said the Patriots had multiple scouting reports on Hunter.

“Not to give anything away but Matt Groh actually wrote two separate scouting reports on him when he went to Colorado this year,” Wolf said. “He has one wide receiver report and one corner report. He’s the only one who did that. Everyone else kind of tried to jam everything into the space we have. But it’s tough when you’re talking about a player who does so many different things to try to fit it all in there.”
