Jordan Pickford admitted to watching Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool.

Former Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford gave a sheepish response to Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup victory.

The boyhood Mackem linked up with some of Newcastle’s cup-winning heroes - Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Dan Burn - at St George’s Park on Monday ahead of England’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

Less than 24 hours earlier, the Magpies ended their 70-year domestic trophy drought by beating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley. Burn opened the scoring before Alexander Isak doubled the advantage. Federico Chiesa pulled one back in stoppage time but it was too little, too late for the Reds.

Pickford admitted to watching the game - and the look on his face said everything. Yep - he didn’t exactly look thrilled!

In a video for social media, players were asked ‘what’s your message or question for the next player that arrives’ as they walked into St George’s Park.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson asked ‘what did you do last night?’. Pickford was next, initially saying “eh?” before he sheepishly replied: “Watched the game.”

Jordan Pickford takes stick from Newcastle United fans

Given his Sunderland connections, Washington-born Pickford often takes a lot of stick from Newcastle fans when he is in action against them for Everton.

But Pickford last year named St James’ Park as one of the most atmospheric grounds in the Premier League, suggesting there are no hard feelings. He said: “I know I get a lot of stick at St James' Park! But I know the atmosphere is always rocking.”
