Space Science Week 2025 will be held in a hybrid format, there will be plenary sessions on April 1 and a keynote public science lecture on April 2.

Space Science Week is the joint meeting of the Space Studies Board of the U.S. National Academies discipline committees in collaboration with the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board and Board on Physics and Astronomy. During this meeting, the six discipline committees meet in individual and joint sessions, with meetings to discuss advances and challenges in space and Earth science and exploration.

Members of the SSB, ASEB, BPA and all six committees will attend the plenary session and keynote lecture, as well as members of the public. In addition, the event will be live-streamed on the National Academies website.

The Space Studies Board’s six Discipline Committees will meet in individual and joint sessions throughout the week.

On Tuesday, April 1, a full-day plenary session will convene all six committees for a joint session. This session provides a unique opportunity to engage with the committees that span NASA’s programs in space science in the Science Mission Directorate and other federal agencies such as FAA, DOE, and OSTP, as well as our international partners.

The keynote public lecture – “The Warped Side of Our Universe: Exploring the Intersection of Art and Science” – will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 2, featuring a conversation between physicist Kip Thorne and artist Lia Halloran.

The Committee on Astrobiology and Planetary Sciences (CAPS) will be holding open sessions on 31 March, 2 April, and 3 April.
