Microsoft is updating the mouse settings in Windows 11, as seen in the recent Windows Server Build 26376. This build now shows all mouse properties in the Settings app, which will likely be included in Windows 11 version 24H2 and 23H3 consumer editions.
The new mouse settings in the Settings app have all the options from the old Mouse properties applet. But as reported by Windows Latest, these settings are now spread across different sections, unlike the old version, which had everything in one window. This makes me question Microsoft's decision.
In the Accessibility section of the Settings app, users can find Mouse Pointer Trails, Shadow, and Pointer image customization. The pointer designs are now displayed in a grid layout with large icons.
The Mouse page in the Accessibility section has options for hover, buttons, click lock, and more. The Devices page has similar options, with some new additions like Enhanced pointer precision and scrolling direction.
It's not just the one issue we talked about earlier, where all the settings are no longer on a single screen—the old applet also had all mouse settings in one window with just tabs to separate them. This made it easy to switch between tabs and find options. The new Settings app approach fits better with the overall design, but having mouse settings in different sections might not be ideal for all users.
Since these changes are already in the Server edition, they will probably also show up eventually in Windows 11 24H2.
