Cam Heyward on potential addition of Aaron Rodgers: 'Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't'

Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro defensive tackle Cam Heyward is tired of waiting to find out who will quarterback his club in 2025.

During the latest episode of the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast, the star said he's "tired of talking about the quarterback situation."

"I'd rather have it done. I don't know what ends up happening..." he added. "Uggh, I'm ready to move on from free agency."

The Steelers are in on the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes, but the four-time MVP is taking his time deciding on where he'll play in 2024, with Pittsburgh, New York Giants and outlier Minnesota being bandied about as options.

Asked specifically what his pitch would be to Rodgers, Heyward gave an indifferent answer.

"I ain't doing that darkness retreat. I don't need any of that crap," Heyward said, referencing Rodgers' well-publicized retreat before he joined the New York Jets two years ago. "Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don't. That's simple. That's the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that's the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers. If you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don't, no skin off my back."

Heyward added that he would never push a player to make a quick decision. The 35-year-old essentially gave one big metaphorical shrug at the entire situation.

"I will never tell a man what to do or how to do it, but if you want to be part of the group, be part of the group," he said.

The Steelers did ink veteran Mason Rudolph, which at least provides Pittsburgh a well-known voice under center as the rest of the uncertainty works itself out.

Heyward said Rudolph is a quarterback that teammates "feel good about."

"He's a guy for the locker room," the DT said.

The question hovering over the next phase of the offseason is whether Rodgers will be the next guy in the Steelers locker room, whether he'll join another team or simply walk off into the darkness for good.
