Crystal Palace are expected to see change at centre-back and fight to hang on to a key goalscorer this summer.
It’s set to be a summer of rife transfer rumours at Crystal Palace come the end of the season but Oliver Glasner will be desperate to keep the majority of his squad, which has lost just three Premier League games since November.
The Eagles have earned a reputation for scouting and recruiting the best EFL talent before selling them on for a profit but the nucleus of Glasner’s side could achieve big things next season. Looking at current transfer rumours, LondonWorld sees what a dream starting XI for Crystal Palace could look like next season.
Goalkeeper: Dean Henderson
Two centre-backs join Crystal Palace as Marc Guehi leaves
Centre-backs: Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Maxence Lacroix, William Esteve
Crystal Palace could see the most change in defence this summer with Marc Guehi linked with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. While many Eagles fans will want to see the England international stay at Selhurst Park, it could be wise for the club to stoke a transfer race with the defender’s contract expiring next summer.
That money will have to be spent on the same position. Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis has turned heads at Southampton this season despite the club’s form and Football Insider report that he is a target for the club. Burnley’s defensive efforts have been phenomenal in the Championship and Clarets centre-back William Esteve has also emerged as a Crystal Palace target. Meanwhile, there’s no reason to change Dean Henderson between the sticks.
Wing-backs: Tyrick Mitchell, Daniel Munoz
There has been some speculation over the future of both wing backs at Crystal Palace but those transfer rumours are not as rife as other players. It would be a coup for Crystal Palace to hold onto both Tyrick Mitchell and Daniel Munoz. Those positions are key in the Oliver Glasner model and those players fill them well.
Munoz is supposedly a summer target for Chelsea while TeamTALK claim that Mitchell is a target for AC Milan, who are preparing for the exit of Theo Hernandez themselves.
Crystal Palace win transfer race for Championship hotshot
Defensive midfielders: Adam Wharton, Will Hughes
Attacking midfielders: Eberechi Eze, Jobe Bellingham
Crystal Palace are in ‘advanced talks’ with Will Hughes over a new contract, which points to the linchpin staying at Selhurst Park. There’s growing talk of a Manchester City swoop for Adam Wharton this summer, CaughtOffside one of the outlets carrying that, but the midfielder will surely be conscious of what has happened to Kalvin Phillips since making that jump too early. The former Blackburn Rovers man will still have four years left on his deal this summer, meaning the club is under no pressure to sell and his value will surely just continue to climb.
Eberechi Eze will be the centre of rumours this summer too but chairman Steve Parish claimed that the transfer storm last year was a lot of noise over nothing. Crystal Palace have been regularly linked with Sunderland man Jobe Bellingham, who could move for £20 million. That would be some signing and he looks to be a player that would slot into the Glasner system well.
Striker: Jean-Philippe Mateta
Manchester United are said to be sniffing around the talisman after Paul Merson urged the Red Devils to make that move. The Daily Express even claimed that Manchester United could offer three players to Crystal Palace to make that move happen but even Altay Bayindir, Joshua Zirkzee and Harry Maguire combined would be a downgrade on Mateta’s surefire source of goals.
In other news, a Crystal Palace labelled ‘phenomenal’ by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has dropped a transfer hint.
