UPDATE (2:30 PM EDT): The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the incident at the Dyno Nobel plant in Biwabik, Minnesota, after responding to reports of a fire Tuesday morning. Authorities arrived at the scene shortly before 11 a.m. and initiated precautionary evacuations. Upon investigation, the responding officers determined the blaze began near an exhaust vent. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished, and evacuation orders were later lifted. No injuries were reported, and the extent of the damage remains unknown.

In a statement to Northern News Now, a Dyno Nobel spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying, “At around 10 a.m. CT this morning, an employee noticed smoke and flames in a boiler room that is part of Dyno Nobel’s facility in Biwabik, Minnesota. The on-site team followed emergency response procedures as trained, including evacuating the site, contacting the fire department, and restricting access."

The spokesperson added, "The fire was successfully extinguished without any injuries or heat exposure to explosive products or sensitive materials on site. The team is working to ensure there are no further risks before re-starting operations, and an in-depth investigation will take place in coming days.”
