Liverpool have seen many great players over the years.
Some left their mark on the pitch, while others continued to shape the game after retiring.
Few, however, have done both at the highest level.
When a former Red is recognized for their contributions to football, it is always a proud moment for the club and its fans.
Liverpool legend Alan Hansen has now received a special honor.
He was a key part of the club’s success, winning multiple league titles and European trophies.
After retiring, he became one of the most respected voices in football.
Now, his impact has been officially recognized.
Alan Hansen gets honoured
The former Liverpool defender and long-time BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen has been awarded an MBE for services to football and broadcasting.
Hansen, now 69, received the honor at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
Hansen played 14 years for Liverpool, winning eight First Division titles, three European Cups, and two FA Cups in the 1970s and 1980s.
He joined the club in 1977 from Partick Thistle and eventually became captain before retiring in 1991.
After his playing days, Hansen moved into punditry.
He was a key part of Match of the Day from 1992 to 2014, earning a reputation for his sharp analysis.
Last summer, Hansen was seriously ill in hospital, but he recovered after two weeks and was discharged to continue his recovery at home.
Liverpool fans will always remember Hansen for his elegance on the pitch and his insight off it.
His MBE is a fitting tribute to his incredible career.
