Bernardo Silva is one of many facing an uncertain future at Manchester City right now. But the Portuguese might not be finished at the Etihad just yet.
As if the case with many of his teammates at Manchester City, Bernardo Silva has endured a pretty poor 2024/25 season on the whole. The 30-year-old has just two goals and four assists in 26 Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.
The 2017 arrival from Benfica has been a wonderful servant for the Cityzens but sees his contract expire in the summer of 2026, and he’s grouped among those deemed too old for City, and put up for sale ahead of the summer.
Recent reports have claimed that Man City are ready to sell Silva this summer, along with some of the club’s other stalwarts like Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and maybe even record signing Jack Grealish.
It promises to be a busy summer transfer window at the Etihad and the incoming director of football, Hugo Viana, will certainly have his work cut out in what will be his first summer in place at City.

Bernardo Silva says he wants to stay at Manchester City
Despite City’s reported plans to get Silva off their books this summer, the attacker has now said that he hopes to stay with Manchester City beyond this season, with a rather unsubtle hint towards Guardiola and possibly Viana ahead of the summer.

As quoted by Express, Silva has said of his initial arrival at the club: “I wanted to win a Premier League, I wanted to win a Champions League, I wanted to win an FA Cup. But I never thought specifically that I would, in seven years, win six Premier Leagues. The journey has just been crazy and hopefully it doesn’t stop here. But yeah, it’s been good.”
Man City paid £43.5million for Silva in 2017. He’s since made a staggering 394 total appearances for the club with 69 goals and 69 assists. Along with countless titles, Silva has also become a fan favourite at City, being named Player of the Year for 2018/19.

Manchester City’s stance on a new contract for Bernardo Silva
Although City reportedly plan on selling Silva in the summer, there doesn’t seem to be any concrete plans to cash in on the City favourite, despite what’s been a poor season overall. And even if City do want to sell, it might be in their best interest to extend his contract as to ensure they can get a good fee for him.
Recent reports stated that Man City are dealing with Silva’s contract situation on a summer-by-summer basis and so expect Viana to come in, run the rule over Silva and several others, and make decisions later on in the summer transfer window.
Whilst Silva is keen to stay, he needs to first prove that he’s still capable of providing in the Premier League with some strong performances between now and the summer.
