Manchester United latest transfer news and rumours ahead of the summer window

Manchester United are looking ahead towards the summer transfer window as Ruben Amorim looks to make his mark on the Red Devils squad. The former Sporting CP coach signed Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu during the January window.

The loan exits of Antony, Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia were also sanctioned with all three players set for a permanent departure this summer - alongside Jadon Sancho, who joined Chelsea on loan back in the summer.

United did have a genuine interest in Geovany Quenda ahead of the summer but Chelsea hijacked the move last week with the highly-rated youngster set to move to Stamford Bridge in 2026. The Red Devils’ financial situation means they will need to sell players this summer to raise much-needed funds. If they qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, their financial picture will look much brighter heading into the summer.

The players to leave United this summer

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed that United are ‘confident’ of investing this summer as they have planned for the departures of a number of players. He has named Victor Lindelöf, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo as the anticipated exits alongside Rashford and Antony.

Eriksen’s departure has been widely reported for some time, as has Lindelof’s planned exit. Both players are out of contract at the end of the season and while they will leave on free transfers, United will at least be able to clear up their wage bill. Casemiro is no longer among the top options in midfield for Amorim and the Red Devils will look to move him on at the end of the season.

Whether the Brazilian will depart is another question as he is currently one of United’s highest earners and may struggle to land a big contract elsewhere. Rashford and Antony, who have improved their form since leaving on loan in January, are understood to have played their final games for the club.

Mainoo departure could irk fans

The naming of Mainoo as a departure comes as somewhat of a surprise and is something that is likely to irk a large part of the United fanbase. It comes after reports earlier this month from the Daily Mail that Mainoo’s representatives wanted the player to be handed a pay rise of £180,000 per week plus bonuses. They feel that is more reflective of his status within the squad and his place as an England international.

Chelsea were linked with Mainoo back in January. As an academy player, Mainoo’s departure would count as pure profit when accounting for profit and sustainability and give the Red Devils greater spending power in the window. However, United are reportedly eager to convince Mainoo that his future lies at United and are hopeful they can reach a ‘compromise’ in contract talks. Mainoo penned his last contract with United in February 2023, when he was aged just 17.

Speaking after reports emerged of Chelsea being interested in Mainoo, Amorim said back in January: "Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players we build for this club. But we know the position the club is in at the moment. We will see."
