Arsenal 'Move Ahead' Of Liverpool And Chelsea In Transfer Race For €75 Million Serie A Attacker

Arsenal have reportedly moved ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea in the race for Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram.

The Gunners are set to sign a striker in the summer transfer window after failing to sign Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins in January. They are second in the Premier League table after beating Chelsea 1-0, 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who lost to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final this past weekend.

As they look to add a striker, they have been linked to signing Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram. According to Football Insider, the Gunners have moved ahead of Liverpool as they aim to sign the French international.

Inter aren’t willing to sell Thuram, however, there is reportedly a release clause in his contract, meaning that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool could sign him without obstacle from the Serie A side.

Thuram has made 38 appearances for Inter this season, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists, as they sit top of the Serie A three points clear of Napoli in second.

The report says that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all monitoring Thuram, but the Gunners are the current frontrunners as they finally look to add a number nine.

Liverpool are looking to find a long-term replacement for Darwin Nunez, and Chelsea want more depth up front as they currently just have Nicolas Jackson available.

Arsenal target Thuram says he will never demand to leave Inter

Amid the reports that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all keen to sign Thuram, it could be difficult for the clubs to persuade the Frenchman to leave the Italian club.

In an interview in December 2024, he told Italian newspaper Gazetta Dello Sport: “I’ll say it clearly: it will never happen that I leave Inter by triggering the [release] clause, because of the relationship I have with everyone here.

“That figure is there, but I’ll never be the one to decide alone. And if something comes up, there will always be a discussion with the club.”

Thuram’s release clause is reportedly set at £71m, making him more expensive than the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane.
