A summer of change looms large at Anfield, with multiple key players facing uncertain futures as Liverpool prepare for a new era under Arne Slot.
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk are all out of contract at the end of the campaign, while speculation continues to swirl around the futures of several first-team regulars.
With Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Diogo Jota all linked with potential moves away, an attacking overhaul also seems inevitable.
Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas is also likely to depart, and doubts remain over the futures of Joe Gomez, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, and Ibrahima Konaté. However, perhaps the biggest concern for Liverpool fans is the growing interest from Paris Saint-Germain in van Dijk.
PSG step up interest in van Dijk with massive salary offer
According to Anfield Watch, PSG have placed van Dijk at the top of their summer transfer wishlist.
The Ligue 1 giants have already made contact with the Dutch defender’s representatives and are reportedly offering a lucrative pre-tax deal worth €80 million over two years, with an option for a third season.
A huge signing bonus would take the total package to around €100 million.
Although van Dijk is not believed to be motivated by money, Liverpool’s slow approach to contract negotiations has reportedly left key players feeling undervalued.
At the end of 2023, an extension seemed like a formality, with the centre-back happy to continue leading the club into a post-Jürgen Klopp era. However, delays in securing a deal have given PSG the belief that they have a real opportunity to lure the 33-year-old to Paris.
Van Dijk’s future remains unclear
Despite PSG’s aggressive pursuit, van Dijk has not ruled out staying at Liverpool.
Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman recently spoke about the defender’s situation, saying:
He said: “Whether he signs with Liverpool or another big club, that’s all good for me. We’ll see what happens, and what I understand from Virgil is that he is still looking for the level he is at now.”
The Dutchman remains one of the best centre-backs in world football, and losing him would be a significant blow for Liverpool.
If he decides to leave, the club will need to move quickly to secure a top-tier replacement, with Marc Guehi and Dean Huijsen reportedly among their defensive targets.
