Lane Kiffin has taken advantage of every opportunity to improve the Ole Miss football team since he was hired as the head coach in 2020. He has seamlessly adapted to the current landscape of college football which is dominated by the transfer portal and NIL money, and he continues to add critical pieces to his coaching staff.
The NCAA recently ruled that analysts are allowed to engage in on-field activities, which is good news for the Rebels as they have former NFL head coach Joe Judge already on staff. However, Kiffin made another big move on Tuesday, as On3 Sports reported that the team was adding James Cregg as an analyst.
Cregg has worked for Kiffin at several stops during his coaching career. The two first worked together in Oakland when Cregg was hired as the assistant offensive line coach for the Raiders in 2007. After two years there, Kiffin brought Cregg to Tennessee for a one-year stint and then hired him as the offensive line coach at Southern California, where the two coached together for four years.
In 2015, Cregg was an assistant offensive line coach for the Denver Broncos when they won the Super Bowl, and he also served as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the LSU Tigers when they won the National Championship in 2019. Not only does Cregg have a great relationship with coach Kiffin, but he has a winning acumen at both the professional and collegiate levels that should be able to help this Rebels football team.
