West Ham United have been forced to improvise up top this season due to injuries and a flawed transfer strategy.
Jarrod Bowen has returned to lead the line for numerous matches this season, with Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio both out long-term, Danny Ings not trusted to lead the line regularly, and Graham Potter at times having to deploy a false nine system – particularly when Bowen was injured at the start of 2025.
David Sullivan will be expected to loosen the wallet again this summer to bring in some reinforcements, even if the spending is not as lavish as last summer – and fans will want a shiny new striker.

West Ham submit ‘irresistible’ offer to Champions League forward
West Ham supporters would not have envisaged being marooned in 16th position in the Premier League and out of the domestic cups early when they spent well over £100million last summer.
Tim Steidten – now a departed figure from the London Stadium – led the recruitment charge and was responsible for the appointment of Julen Lopetegui, who lasted just 22 games before Potter replaced him.

Performances have improved under the former Chelsea boss, who is now eyeing Lille striker Jonathan David to be the answer up front next season.
According to Diario Sport in Spain (18 March), the Irons have issued an “irresistible” financial offer to David to swap Champions League football for the burgeoning new chapter in East London.
Potter reportedly wants 25-year-old David to spearhead the attack as his primary striker, with Antonio’s future in doubt with his contract expiring this summer, and Fullkrug’s injury record proving so far unreliable.

David could come to the London Stadium this year
West Ham have been linked heavily with David in the past, with the striker attracting interest from all over the globe having been prolific in Ligue 1 for several years.
The Canadian international striker is out of contract this summer, meaning that any club who takes him on as a free agent will be expected to pay wages which could reach astronomical levels given his stage of career.
David has proven himself to be reliable both in front of goal and fitness wise, scoring 107 goals in 224 games since joining Lille from Gent in 2020.

David has enjoyed a prolific career and could now be set for the Premier League
Although still 25, the striker already has 31 international goals in 59 full caps, and has found the net 75 times since the start of the 2022-23 season in northern France, providing little wonder why Barcelona are among the many potential suitors.
With Ligue 1 and the Belgian Pro League having proven to be light work for David, a move to the Premier League is the challenge he needs, and certainly the benefit West Ham require to fire them up the table next season.
