Club chief speaks out about talk about "Liverpool submitting an official offer" for £80m stunner

**Liverpool’s search for a new no. 9 this summer has hit an early roadblock, with Atletico Madrid making it clear that they have no intention of selling Julian Alvarez.**

Reports had suggested that the Reds had already approached the Spanish side about a potential deal for the 25-year-old forward, but Atletico’s sporting director, Carlos Busero, has firmly denied these claims.

Speaking to the press, Busero shut down speculation linking Alvarez with a move to Anfield.

“The talk about Liverpool submitting an official offer to sign our player Julian Alvarez is incorrect,” he said.

“What is being circulated is just rumours. Alvarez is a key and important player in our project, and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours.”

This comes despite Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, recently [admitting that Liverpool had shown interest in the Argentina international](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/julian-alvarez-agent-confirms-liverpool-31208795) before his £80 million move from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool’s need for a new centre-forward is becoming increasingly evident. Both Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota have struggled with consistency this season, leaving the club in search of a more reliable goal scorer.

Alvarez has been in sensational form since joining Atletico, scoring 23 goals in 44 appearances this season.

His ability to play across the front line, combined with his sharp finishing and high pressing, would have made him a perfect fit for Arne Slot’s system at Liverpool.

However, with Atletico unwilling to sell, the Reds may have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak remains a prime target, while other names are expected to emerge as Liverpool ramp up their transfer plans.

With Alvarez seemingly off the market, Liverpool’s focus will shift to other targets in their pursuit of a world-class no. 9.

The club is expected to be active in the summer transfer window, and securing the right striker will be a top priority if they want to maintain their dominance in the Premier League next season.
