Newcastle United can look forward to sharing their Carabao Cup triumph with their passionate supporters soon after achieving success on the pitch.
Following their stunning win against Liverpool, Newcastle left no stone unturned in celebrating, with jubilant supporters taking to the streets in the North East and around Wembley. The club confirmed that March 29 will mark a special day of celebrations in Tyneside. The team is set to bask in the adulation of a first significant domestic title in seven decades alongside their loyal fan base. There is the possibility of a parade, although that may resurface some memories of cup finals that did not go Newcastle's way.
Club legend Alan Shearer was delighted for the players who finally ended Newcastle's trophy drought. The former striker has his own history with less fortunate parade events - he was part of two open-top bus parades despite the Magpies suffering FA Cup final defeats in consecutive years, 1998 and 1999.
Shearer, who tops Newcastle's scoring charts, suffered the ignominy of celebrating with fans without any silverware following losses to Arsenal and Manchester United. He told the Rest Is Football podcast: "We did open-top bus parades after being beaten twice in the cup finals which make you think, 'how f***ing stupid is this?'"
"It just shows how desperate the Newcastle fans are for success because there was hundreds of thousands of fans."
Gary Lineker, responding to Shearer's comments during the podcast, noted: "Only in Newcastle would they all turn out. Shearer continued: "Unbelievable. I mean it's absolutely outrageous.
"Hundreds of thousands of fans lining the streets. It's like, ah, it's embarrassing [to not have a trophy to show]."
Fans are set to swarm the streets and pack the city once more for the club's celebrations. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe shared his thoughts on the upcoming party.
"With such a long wait for a trophy, this will be a day that I'm sure everyone will never forget," he said. "We will never forget it. I certainly won't. I think there's different ways to win trophies.
"Today we won it in the best way. We played a brilliant opponent, they've been the best team in the Premier League all season by quite a long way. And for me, we were the better team.
"I feel amazing, it is an incredible day. I was so, so pleased with our performance, it was not a lucky win, thoroughly deserved. I am drenched in alcohol from Joelinton and the rest of the squad, it's a great moment, it is about embracing the success. We have to try and enjoy the moment and take it all in."
