Cowboys Dak andLamb Linked To Cooper Kupp In Shocking Rumor

FRISCO - Just weeks ago the Dallas Cowboys appeared to be on the verge of a major potential spending spree ahead of free agency. The team worked to sign Osa Odighizuwa to a new contract.

Not only did the Cowboys maintain their defensive anchor, but they also kicked in extra cap space by restructuring the contracts of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

As most expected though, that newfound space never materialized into any game-changing moves fro the team. They signed some noteworthy pieces certainly, but did not reel in the big fish.

However, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it appears they did have one on the line for at least a moment. Amid Kupp's free agency, Prescott and Lamb reportedly made their pitches for Kupp to come to The Star.

"Last Thursday, the Cowboys reached out about Cooper Kupp and they were interested," he said on a recent episode of The Adam Schefter Podcast. "Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, who I understand it, were on the phone with Cooper Kupp talking to him about the idea of coming to Dallas, and it was floated out there."

Kupp has since signed a three-year $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks and figures to be a major part of their offense. Sam Darnold will be taking over under center as well, signaling a considerable shift for the offense as a whole.

As for Cowboys fans, there is some frustration to be had watching the team get passed on once again. Dallas' star players showed interest in playing with Kupp though the franchise was not swayed to act on a move here.

However, that lacking interest may have been mutual here. The hopes for proponents of Kupp signing with the Cowboys banked on new receivers coach and longtime mentor Junior Adams swaying the decision. He seemed to have little to no influence here.

Ultimately, Kupp got what he wanted and the Cowboys' offseason carries on. Revealed in Schefter's reporting nonetheless, is that Prescott and Lamb see what the rest of Cowboys Nation has proclaimed over the last year.

The Cowboys need another playmaker on the offense and ideally in the passing game. Prescott and Lamb together can only do so much.

Whether they make an unsuspecting trade or identify a talent in the draft, it is clear that this gap is not only a necessity for the team to improve, but also a want coming from their locker room leadership.
