Sporting Director Hugo Viana is keen to bring one of his former Sporting CP players Francisco Trincao to Manchester City.
According to A Bola via Sport Witness, Sporting Director Hugo Viana is the driving force behind Manchester City’s pursuit of Francisco Trincao. The Sporting CP star, who also features on Manchester United’s radar continues to impress with his performances in Portugal, which could potentially lead to a big move to the Premier League.
Sporting CP have not been the same since the departure of influential manager Ruben Amorim, who left midway through the season to join Manchester United. Before that, the Portuguese champions lost sporting director Hugo Viana to Manchester City, which has depleted the club to an extent.
While they are still leading the way in the league standings, there might be a few key stars departing in the summer. Exciting teenager Geovany Quenda has already agreed on a move to Chelsea for 2026, while there are considerable doubts about striker Viktor Gyokeres and winger Francisco Trincao’s future.
The latter has massive interest from the Premier League, as Sporting CP could decide to cash in on him in the summer. The Manchester Clubs are also interested, with two of the former influential figures of Sporting CP now in the English city.
Manchester United have watched Trincao in action, as former Sporting manager Amorim remains keen on a reunion. However, former Sporting director Viana is the one leading the charge to sign Trincao to Manchester City, which could eventually lead to a big battle between the local rivals.
Manchester City interested in Francisco Trincao
Manchester City have faced plenty of problems this season, particularly with the sub-par performances from some of the players. One evident problem for Pep Guardiola comes in the form of wingers, with neither Jeremy Doku or Savinho performing to their expected levels.
Trincao could be the ideal solution for either, but more so for Savinho, as the attacker with 24 goals and assists likes to play on the right flank. Manchester City might have to shell out a large sum to sign the Portuguese international given he reportedly has a huge release clause at Sporting CP. For now, Viana will continue to find ways to bring Trincao, although Manchester United could rival their neighbors.
