A former Cleveland Browns quarterback is on the move. But it's probably not who you think.
The Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday that they've added Jordan Traylor and Charlie Frye to the coaching staff under Kevin O'Connell.
Traylor will work as assistant offensive coordinator/assistant quarterbacks coach while Frye has curiously been added to the defensive staff as an assistant.
Frye played quarterback for six seasons in the NFL after being a third-round pick by the Browns in 2005. He set a Browns rookie record for a single-game passer rating of 136.7 in Week 13 with 226 yards passing and two touchdown passes to fellow rookie Braylon Edwards.
The University of Akron product was named the starting quarterback for 2006 and played 13 games with a 4-9 record. He was named the starter again for 2007 but eventually lost the job to Derek Anderson who eventually made the Pro Bowl that year.
Frye was traded to Seattle the following season then signed with Oakland before the 2009 campaign. He retired after the 2010 season and went into coaching in 2012 with Jones High School as the offensive coordinator.
After a stint at Central Michigan in 2019-20 he became the quarterbacks coach for the Dolphins in 2021 where he worked with current Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Most recently, Frye was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Florida Atlantic University.
