Skopje, 18 March 2025, dtt-net.com – Thousands in capital Skopje and other towns of North Macedonia gathered in the streets to pay tribute to the 59 people dead from the nightclub fire in Kocani town.
In capital Skopje citizens rallied in town’s centre holding a 16-minute of silence and lit candles over the tragic accident in the illegal nightclub, when fire caused by fireworks also injured 155 others.
Authorities have launched a massive investigation and have detained 16 people so far, seeking to identity all responsible people whose irresponsibility led to the tragic accident in the illegally operating nightclub and breach of security measures rules.
Interior Minister Pance Toshkovski today announced dismissal of seven police officers in Kocani and Stip municipalities and replacement of them with police officers from capital Skopje.
One of the temporarily detained is the former Minister of Economy, Kreshnik Bekteshi, as the police and prosecution are investigating circumstances of the nightclub being allowed to operate illegally for several years already.
More than 60 people suffering from severe burns are sent to the neighbouring and EU member countries for treatment.
