Jalen Milroe has the physical tools to be an NFL quarterback, but the former Alabama passer will have to put them together consistently to stick in the professional ranks.
Wave Sports + Entertainment's Bomani Jones recognized Milroe's talents Friday on his podcast, "The Right Time with Bomani Jones." Milroe has been tabbed with a second-round 2025 NFL Draft projection by NFL.com's Chad Reuter. Jones doesn't see him climbing higher despite a shallow class of signal callers.
"I don't think anybody's gonna fall for it, but somebody is gonna be willing to overlook it," Jones said. "Just because he's such a physical specimen. But when he came out for the draft and people talked about how crazy it was, I was like, ‘Oh, no. … What is gonna get him drafted is not going to change. He needs to stop putting up film to get in the way of that. Big, strong, fast."
Jalen Milroe was inconsistent last season, passing for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Defenses had to consider his threat as a rusher, too, as he went for 726 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground for the Crimson Tide.
The campaign before that, Milroe placed sixth in Heisman Trophy voting, helping Alabama to an SEC championship and a College Football Playoff appearance.
Earlier this month, former USC quarterback Cody Kessler compared Milroe to veteran journeyman Tyrod Taylor.
"I like Tyrod Taylor as his comparison," Kessler said. "And the reason I say that is when you go look at - and you can go back and look at Tyrod Taylor - if you look at their report when they were coming out of college going to the NFL, Tyrod's said, 'Rocket arm, can make all the throws, has potential to be a big-time starter. Just too many throws to where he's not consistent, and that starts with his feet.'"
