Report: Flamengo chief throws spanner in the works as Everton could now miss out on Carlos…

It was looking so promising for Carlos Alcaraz to complete a permanent switch to Everton but this move might now be in jeopardy.

Alcaraz has made a mixed start to life at Everton as it seems the Argentine is yet to get fully going under David Moyes.

It was a strong start from the midfielder as Moyes said Alcaraz has been ‘monstrous’ for Everton, but that form seems to have faded.

It seemed like Moyes mistakenly played Alcaraz on Everton’s wing as the Scotsman is still trying to find the 22-year-old’s best position.

Well, he might not be around for much longer, as The Friedkin Group might have made a grave error in the bid to sign him permanently.

Flamengo chief sends warning to Everton with Carlos Alcaraz decision

It’s undecided whether Everton will be signing Alcaraz permanently on the clause they agreed on as the deal includes an obligation to buy for £15m in the summer if he plays 45 minutes in at least eight games.

That clause seemed like it was going to be activated with Moyes happy with him in the squad.

However, it was mentioned before that Everton were dodging Alcaraz’s clause and now a new revelation may have just confirmed that.

In an interview with journalist, Venê Casagrande, Flamengo director Jose Boto didn’t hold back suggesting that Alcaraz will leave Flamengo for England whether at Everton or not.

“I can’t predict the future, but I’m convinced he’ll stay in England,” Boto said.

“Either at Everton or at another club, because we’ve had enquiries from other clubs since he arrived in England.

“He’s an excellent player for that type of game. I think it’s unlikely he’ll return to Flamengo because he’ll certainly have a market in the Premier League.

“Then people say: ‘he’s good enough in the Premier League but not for Flamengo’. Things are not like that.

“Especially because, for me, Flamengo is much better than 70% of the teams in the Premier League. But the style of play that Flamengo has, has little to do with most of the teams in the Premier League.”

Everton don’t want to miss out on Carlos Alcaraz as it could upset Moyes

The main thing Evertonians will want to see is a good working relationship between Moyes and the Friedkins, but if they stick with their stance this won’t help.

It does seem Alcaraz wants a long-term Everton stay but if the Toffees’ owners make things difficult, this could very easily backfire on them.

£15m isn’t bad business at all for someone of the midfielder’s quality, and it seems like The Friedkin’s might be trying to be too smart with this move.

Boto seems like someone who doesn’t mess about, and if the right offer arrives from another Premier League club he won’t hesitate to accept.

This will leave Moyes raging as the Scotsman clearly has admiration for the Argentine, so the owners must play their cards right.
