Manchester United injury and return dates as the Red Devils prepare for games with Nottingham Forest and Man City

Manchester United return to action against Nottingham Forest on April 1 before welcoming Manchester City to Old Trafford five days later on April 6. The Red Devils went into the international break on a high as they picked up wins over Real Sociedad and Leicester City.

The win over Sociedad saw them advance into the last eight of the Europa League. Their hopes of playing Champions League football are still alive as they prepare to face French side Lyon over two legs. If they can navigate that tie, a semi-final against Rangers or Athletic Club awaits.

In the Premier League it is about finishing as high as they can to bank as much prize money as possible, although their hopes of European qualification via their league position are all-but over. As United prepare for a return to action, we take a look at the latest injury news and potential return dates for Ruben Amorim’s squad. Mason Mount did return to the matchday squad at Leicester, although he remained on the bench. It is likely he will be back to face Forest.

Manchester United injury and return dates

Lisandro Martinez: The defender has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and is not due to return well into next season and could even be out until the start of the next calendar year.

Expected return date: Next season

Amad Diallo: The forward was initially ruled out for the season when he first picked up a foot injury but Amorim said last week the player could be back before the end of the season. Amorim said earlier this month: “I don’t want to say anything to you but I have the hope to have Amad before [the end of the season], we’ll see.”

Expected return date: v Chelsea, May 18

Luke Shaw: The left-back has dealt with numerous injury issues this season and Amorim said recently the defender could be back before the end of the season, without providing a specific return date.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Kobbie Mainoo: The England international has been out since the middle of February after picking up an injury in training. He is expected back after the international break and could be in the squad against Nottingham Forest.

Expected return date: v Nottingham Forest, April 1.

Ayden Heaven: The defender has impressed since being handed his chance in the senior squad but could see his early progress derailed by injury. He was carried off on a stretcher against Leicester but posted an update on his Instagram on Tuesday, saying he was doing really well and recovering fast.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Altay Bayindir: Bayindir is still sidelined with an unspecified issue and there has been no update on his possible return. The Turkish shot-stopper has missed the last eight matches and hasn't been named in a matchday squad since February 2.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Jonny Evans: Evans has spent a lengthy spell out of action with a muscle injury. He has missed the last 18 matches and has not been in a matchday squad since the Boxing Day defeat to Wolves.

Expected return date: Unknown.

Leny Yoro: The defender picked up an injury in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal but is due back after the international break and should be in the squad against Nottingham Forest, barring any set-backs.

Expected return date: v Nottingham Forest, April 1.

Harry Maguire: Out since being injured in the FA Cup loss to Fulham, Maguire is not set to be out long term and like Yoro and Mainoo, is due to return for the trip to the City Ground at the start of April.

Expected return date: v Nottingham Forest, April 1.
