Man Utd star 'not concerned' he'll be booted out in summer as Ineos get ruthless

Manchester United star Andre Onana is reportedly ‘not concerned’ about speculation that a new goalkeeper could be arriving at Old Trafford. The Cameroon shot-stopper has split opinion with his performances this season but believes he has the backing of head coach Ruben Amorim.

Onana started the season in good form but his two years in Manchester have been punctuated by some high-profile mistakes. Recent errors have contributed to United’s slip down to 13th in the Premier League. Some reports have claimed that the Red Devils could sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.

It is unclear whether United would be signing a new No. 1 or acquiring an understudy to Onana. Altay Bayindir is currently the club’s second-choice goalkeeper but has himself looked unconvincing in some of his seven appearances.

According to The i Paper, Onana is ‘not concerned’ by reports about United signing a new goalkeeper. He believes he has the support of Amorim and shares a good relationship with the Red Devils boss. The 28-year-old is determined to help United turn around their bad form.

Amorim recently defended Onana but confessed that the United goalkeeper had endured “some problems”. The former Ajax man made two mistakes in the 3-2 win over Ipswich last month.

“I think he passed this (stage) in the last year,” Amorim said afterwards. “I don’t know for sure. There was some difficult moments. But this season he did some great saves that save our team and then sometimes has some problems.

“But that is normal and I think if you look through our team you can find a lot of players with that issue, so I think we are not performing so well as a team and sometimes some players have problems.”

United are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and are likely to place significant resources into improving Amorim’s squad. An overhaul of the first team could happen, particularly if United struggle to turn around their form in the final nine games of the Premier League season.

Ayden Heaven’s emergence at centre-back following his £1million switch from Arsenal in January has been a welcome boost for United and Amorim. However, the 18-year-old was carried off on a stretcher during the 3-0 win over Leicester on Sunday. The club are facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of his injury.
