Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk and his future have been the subject of intense speculation, with recent rumours of him to PSG.
Following Liverpool’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of PSG, rumours of the defender joining the French side have begun. Moreover, the Dutchman’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
However, these rumours have been quickly shot down by French journalist Josue Casse. He stated there is no connection between Van Dijk and PSG, adding that “nothing has happened” between the two sides.
Casse also mentioned that PSG, with a solid defensive line led by Marquinhos, has not made any moves for the Dutch defender.
He confirmed that discussions at Anfield are not focused on Van Dijk’s future at the moment.
He took the rumours to his social media platform to shoot them down.
“***To date, and contrary to rumours in the English press, there is no link between PSG and Virgil van Dijk The Reds defender’s contract is out, and rumours are rife, but nothing has happened regarding the capital club. PSG currently boasts a central defensive line that combines experience (Marquinhos) with youth (Beraldo, Pacho). The discussion in the corridors of Anfield was in no way linked to his future.***“

Virgil van Dijk opens up on his contract situation with Liverpool
Van Dijk isn’t the only key Liverpool player facing uncertainty. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold also have contracts that expire soon.
Salah has made it clear he wants to stay at Liverpool, but Alexander-Arnold has been more private about his plans. There are even reports suggesting that Alexander-Arnold could join Real Madrid this summer.
Van Dijk, meanwhile, has kept quiet about his future but has assured fans that he loves the club hinting at extending his contract. After Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle, he hinted that news about his situation would come soon. He remains focused on his current responsibilities at Liverpool.
“As long as I’m fully committed and have my full focus on the task ahead, and I love the club, that’s the main thing. That’s who I am. Before the end of the season there’s going to be news.”
While his loyalty to the club is evident, the clock is ticking on his contract, and fans will have to wait for further updates on his next steps.
