Unai Emery has reportedly made his summer transfer wishes known, with Real Sociedad's Jon Aramburu emerging as one his "ideal" new addition.
The Villa boss is looking to strengthen his right back options and is alleged to have highlighted the Venezuelan international as his perfect candidate.
Having only gained a spot in the first team set-up this season, the 22-year-old has quickly made an impact after some promising performances. The defender is incredibly versatile and has been known to play in any position across the back four under current boss Imanol Alguacil.
Aramburu was given his chance after regular starter Hamari Traoré ruptured his ACL rendering him out for the rest of season, allowing the young Venezuelan to pick up 38 appearances already this season and establish himself in the squad.
However, with his age, talent and increasing experience, the full back's performances haven't gone unnoticed with Villa in a race against some European giants to lock him into a deal at Villa Park.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes Villa are leading the race as they are allegedly ready to make the first concrete steps while Inter Milan and Real Madrid monitor him from a distance. They say he is an 'priority' for Villa.
It's not known how the full back will adjust to life in England after a difficult run in with Manchester United in the Europa League last week saw him being sent off in the 63rd minute after a tackle against Patrick Dorgu.
An issue may arrive in negotiations for the 22-year-old's transfer fee. TransferMarkt values the defender at around £10 million, although having just penned a very long term contract until 2030, the Basque side are likely to hugely inflate that fee.
Sociedad may also want to block the deal as Arsenal look set to steal the team's star Martin Zubimendi, losing Aramburu too could damage their 2025/26 campaign.
Despite Villa signing Andres Garcia to fill the position just weeks ago, Emery still seems keen on adding some depth to the position given the busy English football schedule.
