Bournemouth threaten to scupper Tottenham hopes of landing defensive lynchpin

Tottenham-linked Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is attracting interest from Bournemouth

Tottenham Hotspur’s season hasn’t gone as planned under Ange Postecoglou. Now out of all domestic competitions, their only hope for silverware lies in the Europa League. A major squad overhaul in the summer transfer window seems to be very much on the cards.

Spurs signed Antonin Kinsky, Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso during the January transfer window, backing Ange Postecoglou with resources when he most required. Despite signing a new goalkeeper in Kinsky, the Lilywhites are interested in another glovesman who hails from Merseyside.

The North Londoners have been linked with Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The Republic of Ireland international has played a crucial role for the Reds this season during Alisson Becker’s injury absence, producing some noteworthy displays.

Tottenham target Kelleher decides against signing new Liverpool contract.

He has been extremely unfortunate to be competing with arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League in Alisson for many seasons; however, at 26 and with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive at Anfield at the end of the season after Liverpool agreed a deal with a deal with Valencia for their shot-stopper last August, Caoimhin Kelleher wants to leave the club to become a first-choice option between the sticks elsewhere.

Now, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Bournemouth are keen to sign Kelleher when the transfer window reopens. The Liverpool goalkeeper has been earmarked as a potential long-term replacement for Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga by the Cherries’ officials, but they splash more than £25million in order to get a deal over the line.

While the Irishman is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, the Premier League leaders are wary that they stand in a good position to get a sizeable fee due to there being a good amount of interest in their second-choice goalkeeper. The Merseysiders have failed in their attempts to tie Kelleher down to a new contract, and he soon entering the last year of his existing deal has put several clubs in the top flight on red alert.

The aforementioned report adds Tottenham remain admirers of Kelleher’s talent and potential but cannot guarantee that he would become their first-choice option due to presence of Guglielmo Vicario and Kinsky.

Guglielmo Vicario sends powerful message ahead of return leg vs AZ Alkmaar

Guglielmo Vicario has performed very well since returning from injury

Vicario has been Spurs’ No.1 since the start of the 2023/24 season. Even though the 28-year-old has his shortcomings, he is a leader and strong motivator at the back. The Italian spent months on the sidelines following an ankle fracture before returning to the team last month. And he has performed very well, giving Kinsky no chance to walk back into Postecoglou’s XI.

Kinsky is young and raw goalkeeper who requires time and patience to develop. The glovesman from Czech Republic has shown great courage in the games he played during Vicario’s injury absence, and even though he has made some glaring errors, Ange is unlikely to give up on him after just five months.

That being said, Tottenham appear well-stocked in the goalkeeping department for now. So, there is no immediate requirement of a new goalkeeper, someone in the ilk of Kelleher whose ambitions are to become the first-choice at any club he leaves Liverpool for. With Spurs also having Vicario and Kinsky, Kelleher would likely prefer a move to Bournemouth where he will get an opportunity to establish himself as a No.1.
