Spanish interest in Lokonga

Since his move in 2021, Albert Sambi Lokonga has become the forgotten man at Arsenal.

The Anderlecht youth graduate, who is still on loan at Sevilla in Spain, is now a target for Atletico Madrid.

Last summer, it was decided that the Belgium international was surplus to requirements. He was loaned to Sevilla, with a £10 million buyout option.

Due to three hamstring problems, Lokonga has had a difficult season, and Sevilla is considering lowering the clause.

Sevilla may need to be cautious of interest from other elite Spanish teams, but Arsenal appears open to negotiating with only one year remaining on his deal.

For the 25-year-old, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, and Real Betis are "willing to bid."

According to reports, Sevilla's sports director Victor Orta may need to take swift action given the growing interest.

Kean release clause revealed to Prem suitors

Former Everton flop Moise Kean is in the form of his life at Fiorentina.

The Italian best known in England for being subbed as a sub at Old Trafford under Darren Ferguson, is now a man reborn back in Serie A with 15 league goals in 26 matches.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Kean has also attracted interest from the Premier League for next season, where he already played at Everton.

Arsenal are known to be looking for new centre-forwards, while Newcastle United could be forced back onto the market if someone else poaches Alexander Isak.

West Ham United are also said to be making an approach to understand the conditions of a potential move, with Tottenham Hotspur having already been linked.

Kean has a release clause in his contract with Fiorentina that is worth €52m, but it is only valid throughout the month of July.

García blow

For all the talk around strikers for Arsenal, a new goalkeeper has been on the agenda in recent months.

On the show El Chiringuito de Jugones, journalist Eduardo Inda stated (via Fichajes) that Espanyol would rather trade Arsenal target Joan Garcia to Real Madrid.

Although the Catalans do not want to trade to their fierce rivals, Barcelona is reportedly interested in the custodian as well.

“Joan García seems to me to be one of the great sensations of La Liga. He is a huge goalkeeper.

"He has an affordable clause of €30m and it would drop to €15m if Espanyol are relegated. Espanyol know that Barcelona are after the goalkeeper, who is Catalan.

Espanyol has conveyed to Real Madrid that they are interested in selling, and that they prefer to sell him to them rather than to Barcelona.”

Calafiori midfield wish

In order to support Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori claims he is prepared to play a variety of roles and would "love" to learn how to be a midfielder.

Although recent months have seen some setbacks due to physical issues, Calafiori, 22, has made 26 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions and contributed three goals.

Perhaps sadly for Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, a graduate of Hale End's school, rose to prominence during his rookie season and took over the left-back position this season.

'There are many things that I still don’t know how to do,’ said the Italian international defender in a interview to Rivista Undici magazine.

‘I want to keep learning to play in as many different roles as possible.

‘For now, I know how to play two roles, but have always been passionate about midfielders and would love to learn how to play there.’

Zubimendi still tops the midfield list

More from Bailey at TBR Football:

Incidentally, Martin Zubimendi remains Arsenal’s top midfield target this summer and talks to sign the Spaniard are continuing, as they will when Berta is appointed.

Arsenal want to sign Zubimendi quickly in the summer, given that there will be interest from other top European sides.

But Barros remains a fascinating option that Arsenal have been looking at for months, and Berta certainly won’t change that opinion once he arrives.

Arsenal still want Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg, an 18-year-old talent who clearly has a ton of potential.

But the club are continuing to do work on others and Barrios is one name who they are keeping close tabs on for the future.

Berta's Barrios connection

The wheels are seemingly already in motion as incoming Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta looks to make his presence an impactful one in his first summer at the club.

Berta, ex-Atlético de Madrid director, shares the club’s admiration for the Spanish side's 21-year old midfielder Pablo Barrios according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

It should be noted that Barrios has a release clause of €100m (£84m) at Atleti, a price Arsenal would surely not be willing to pay in any case, Bailey adds.

Calafiori pleased by Arteta's 'care'

Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori acknowledged that he was pleased by the team and manager Mikel Arteta right away, especially the Spaniard's desire to get to know him.

The Arsenal full-back has beenspeaking to Rivista Undici e Cronache, via Il Napolista, about his arrival his career, his arrival from Bolonga.

“The first thing that comes to mind is the organisation,” he said.

“How much they care about each player from every point of view, both on the pitch and especially off the pitch. As for Arteta, I was immediately struck by how much he cared about getting to know me.

“One day on the phone he sent me some photos of my family and asked me to say what each member of the family meant to me.

“Nothing like this had ever happened to me before, I’m not saying that he convinced me with this alone, but it certainly represented an important moment.”

Watkins ‘remains on radar’

Alexander Isak may be the flavour of the month right now, but Arsenal's interest in Ollie Watkins is still fresh and not forgotten.

Watkins was reportedly subject to a bid from the Gunners in January, and though the intention never materialising to any credibility, the Villa striker, 29, is still considered an option for the summer.

As reported byTeamTalk, Mikel Arteta’s primary focus remains Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, but Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is still very much on the radar as a potential alternative.

TeamTalk emphasises that Watkins ‘remains on their radar’ but concedes that any potential transfer would require a significantly higher bid than what was initially tabled.

Arsenal in for Nico Williams and Matheus Cunha

Arsenal are interested in the signature of Williams and Cunha, with Andrea Berta targeting the 15-goal Premier League striker.

Nico Williams has a release clause set at €58m (£48.9m), but after interest from Barcelona last summer, already earns well at Athletic Club.

Bayern Munich are also interested, but Barcelona are keen to land his signature, reuniting him with Lamine Yamal, as the pair lit up the Euros last summer.

The biggest blockade in Barcelona's deal is their financial struggles, but Raphinha has been admired by Saudi Arabia for a while.

The biggest issue for clubs will not be the fee, but Williams himself, as he is in love with Athletic and enjoys playing in Bilbao, so he will only move if he feels it will progress his career significantly.

Matheus Cunha has long been a target of both Arsenal and Aston Villa, with his current disciplinary issues not putting off either side.

He signed a new contract at Wolves amidst interest from other clubs in January, but may feel his talent is too good for Wolves, as they battle relegation from the Premier League.

Gabriel attracting interest from Saudi Arabia

Gabriel is out of contract at Arsenal in 2027.

According to Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport, Saudi Arabia are plotting a monster mover for the defender in the summer.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is keen to offer Gabriel a new contract this summer.

However, Al-Nassr are planning to offer a deal worth £20 million a year for the Brazilian defender.

Gabriel is reportedly "open" to moving to Saudi Arabia at some point in his career, but remains focussed on Arsenal's Champions League ambitions this season.

Reports also suggest Arsenal will not consider any bids under €100million, and also see it in their best interests to extend his contract and keep him at the Emirates.

Nottingham Forest doing all they can to keep star player

Forest are trying their hardest to deny Arsenal signing one of their key players, Morgan Gibbs-White.

The attacking midfielder has been a crucial part of the Forest side that are currently on course for Champions League qualification.

Gibbs-White has 12 goal involvements in the Premier League, and his technical ability has him earmarked as the perfect fit for Arteta's system.

His form saw him called up for Thomas Tuchel's first England squad, in the place of the injured Cole Palmer.

With Jorginho and Thomas Partey likely both leaving, Gibbs-White would offer excellent midfield cover for Arsenal next season.

Jorginho agent in South America

Jorginho is likely coming towards the end of his time in London.

His contract with the Gunners is up at the end of this season, with Arsenal unlikely to offer the Italian a new deal in the capital.

Jorginho was born in Brazil, but moved to Italy at the age of 15, and decided to represent Italy rather than Brazil at international level.

Flamengo are reportedly interested in bringing Jorginho back to his country of birth at the end of this season.

He would join another former Chelsea Champions League winner Thiago Silva in Brazil, although Silva currently plays for Fluminense.

His agent is in South America to discuss a potential switch.

Isak deal just became tougher

The quest to land the signature of Alexander Isak has just taken a big hit.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan has reportedly told Newcastle's hierarchy to resist any offers for Alexander Isak in the summer.

Swedish striker Isak wants to play Champions League football, but could still achieve this with Newcastle next season.

Following the Carabao Cup win, the Toon are guaranteed at least a Conference League place.

Eddie Howe's side are two points off Chelsea in fourth, with a game in hand over the Blues.

Arsenal set to open contract talks with Bukayo Saka

BBC are reporting that Bukayo Saka and Arsenal are set top open talks over a new contract at the Emirates.

The academy graduate Saka is currently in the final two years of his deal, with Ian Wright previously suggesting that he feared Saka would run down his deal.

William Saliba and Gabriel are also among those who are out of contract in 2027.

However, with Arsenal's current position in the Premier League, the trio are likely to put pen to paper on new deals as the Gunners aim for a first Premier League title in over 20 years.

Alexander Isak latest

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak scored the second and decisive goal in the Carabao cup final for the Magpies against Liverpool.

A number of clubs have been chasing his signature for the previous 12 months.

However, the Gunners will face stiff competition from other clubs for his signature, alongside competition from Newcastle, who plan to keep him.

Graeme Bailey of TBR is reporting that Newcastle are ready to BREAK their wage structure to keep Isak, and make him the highest earner in the history of the club.

Isak, however, is waiting to see where Newcastle finish in the Premier League before he commits himself to the Geordies.

Arsenal will also face stiff competition from champions elect Liverpool, according to Fabrizio Romano:

"Liverpool are also there for Isak and they have already made some contact with the people close to the player, so both clubs are interested in Alexander Isak."

Manchester United start talks with Arsenal target

Arsenal have had Benjamin Sesko on their transfer list for a while, and have worked so hard to sign the 21-year-old that the Gunners were confident he would sign for them ahead of 2025/26.

The Leipzig striker has scored 17 and assisted six in all competitions for the German side this season.

The Slovenian has peaked the interest of clubs looking for a striker in the summer, as he reportedly has a £58.9 million release clause, which activates in the summer.

However, despite Arsenal's interest, Manchester United have reportedly opened talks for the striker.

Florian Pletternberg of Sky Germany has revealed that United are looking to pip Arsenal to his signature:

“Manchester United are looking to strengthen their attack in the summer and are intensively scouting the market. Talks have already begun.”

“From the Bundesliga, the Red Devils are closely monitoring Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen remain high on their list.”

The report claims that Guimaraes would be signed instead of long-term target Martin Zubimendi, rather than alongside him.

Merino up top the Wright move

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested that Mikel Merino is a strong fit for the 'number nine' role he's been asked to fill in recent weeks, even bringing attributes that Kai Havertz doesn't.

"What we've seen is that he's a very intelligent player," the retired star said while a pundit on the Premier League's Matchday Live post-game coverage.

"When you watch him, and he's linking up the play, by the time [the ball] does get to him – I watched it again when they played PSV – he's so composed and knows where he's passing it.

"That's exactly what Arsenal need in respect of keeping the ball up in that [attacking] third.

"It's something we don't do well because we haven't got a focal point. Kai Havertz isn't that player either, where he links the play how Merino can do it.

"Merino does it in a way where he can hold it and you can go and join him. Then, all of a sudden, we’re playing a bit further up."

Osimhen Prem-bound according to teammate

The Victor Osimhen secret might be out.

The on-loan Napoli striker has re-found his goal-scoring touch at Galatasaray, who look set to win the Turkish League, in what could be described as a year-sabbatical away from top tier European football.

With relationships in Naples soured, it looks all but certain Osimhen will leave the Serie A club, and according to his Nigeria teammate, that destination is locked and loaded.

In an exclusive with talkSPORT, Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong is likely to end up in the Premier League next season.

“I couldn’t see him playing there for another season, or anywhere else but the Premier League next season," the former Watford defender said.
