Rumour Mongering: Van Dijk PSG Links Rubbished

Over the weekend, Sam McGuire published a story for Anfield Watch, reporting that Paris Saint-Germain have a pre-tax offer of €80million spread over two years, with a potential third season in the French capital, on the table for the Liverpool FC captain. A hefty signing bonus takes the initial proposal to €100million.

The report adds that money does not seem to be a motivating factor for the 33-year-old centre-back.

EXC: Paris Saint-Germain are all in on Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool won't break the bank to retain their captain but they do want him to stay. https://t.co/JdJJbTeFV9

However, journalist and noted PSG fan Julien Laurens rubbished that reporting today.

There is nothing between PSG and Virgil Van Dijk. No talks, no negotiations, no 100m signing on fee offer. Nothing. Virgil had a chat with Luis Campos and Nasser Al Khelaifi after the Champions League second leg and it wasn’t about his future but about the two games they played.

Honestly, it’s hard to believe the best centre-back in the world wouldn’t have offers on the table... but on the other hand, he’s been able to field offers since January. If he wanted to leave, he probably would have already signed something. I remain fairly optimistic the big Dutchman will still be at the club next season. Hopefully, that’s the case and he’ll be there to lead the team out of the tunnel in August.
