Stunning report claims Chelsea want to sign £34 million West Ham star in the summer

Edson Alvarez could be set to leave West Ham United to join Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea are said to be keen to bring the Mexican to Stamford Bridge in order to bolster their defensive midfield ranks.

West Ham signed Edson Alvarez for £34 million from Ajax in the summer of 2023.

Could his days at the London Stadium be numbered though?

Edson Alvarez has turned out to be a decent player for West Ham, but his lack of discipline is a real problem.

The 27-year-old has received 23 bookings and two yellow cards in 68 games for West Ham so far.

And it has already been claimed that Graham Potter could look to sell the Hammers midfielder this summer.

Now it seems like he could be in for a shock move across London.

Edson Alvarez could join Chelsea from West Ham

The 27-year-old is like marmite at the London Stadium – some fans love him and some hate him.

In all fairness, I’m somewhere in between, but I don’t rate him particularly highly.

And now Edson could be set to move from East to West London.

According to Mexican outlet Nacion Futbol, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca wants to bring Alvarez to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues chief is said to want more competition for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in the deep-lying midfield role.

I have to say, and this might surprise some, Chelsea can have Alvarez if they really want him.

And he could be gone sooner rather than later.

Why Chelsea can sign Alvarez before the window open

The summer transfer window in England opens up on June 12th.

However, the Blues apparently could sign Alvarez before then,

There will be an extra transfer window this summer, after FIFA created a new timescale designed to help those clubs competing in the Club World Cup.

Said window will be open from June 1st-10th.

And it is being suggested that Chelsea could sign Edson Alvarez from West Ham during that period, so that he is eligible to play for them in the Club World Cup out in the United States.

If the Hammers owners receive a decent offer from Chelsea, somewhere in the region of £40 million or more, I think they should sell him without thinking twice.
