Alan Shearer and Sam Fender unite as Newcastle United celebrations 'continue'

Alan Shearer has not stopped celebrating Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final win.

The Newcastle United legend watched his club finally win a trophy on Sunday, as the Magpies beat Liverpool at Wembley to lift the Carabao Cup.

Immediately after the game, Shearer texted Eddie Howe to say thank you, as he became the first Newcastle United manager to lift a domestic trophy since 1955. That is why fans are calling for Howe to get a statue.

Shearer was also on FaceTime with Sam Fender after the game, as the Geordie singer was not at Wembley due to his ongoing European tour.

But Fender’s biggest song Seventeen Going Under boomed through the Wembley speakers after the Magpies’ win, while the North Shields native has now played it to Shearer in person.

Sam Fender set for St James’ Park moment this summer

Fender will always have ties to Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win, despite not being at Wembley to see the game in person.

Fender’s name was on the Newcastle United shirts, with his new album People Watching advertised on the back underneath the players’ numbers.

It was debuted during the quarter-final against Brentford, and remained there for the rest of the Carabao Cup journey.

Fender and his band are now a part of Toon history, while they will soon get a moment of their own on Tyneside.

They are set to play stadium shows this summer, with Fender selling out St James’ Park twice.

His St James’ Park concerts in 2023 were special, as a sea of black and white danced the night away not long after the Magpies had qualified for the Champions League.

Two years later and Newcastle United’s trophy drought has ended, and you can expect supporters to still be partying when Fender takes to the St James’ Park stage in June.
