Timber breaks silence with four-word message after heated Maresca moment

Arsenal star Jurrien Timber has not shied away from social media after his altercation with Enzo Maresca during Sunday afternoon's London derby with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Maresca took exception to the Arsenal defender falling over after being pushed in the back by Enzo Fernandez right in front of the Chelsea technical area. After his team had a free-kick awarded against them, the Blues head coach wafted his right hand in disagreement and shouted something while walking along the touchline towards Netherlands international Timber.

Maresca then turned to the Arsenal player while he was getting back to his feet. He then covered his mouth with his hand as the conversation continued.

Pitch-side microphones did not pick up exactly what Maresca said, but Timber was overheard repeatedly saying: "Try harder!" After getting his point across, the ex-Ajax centre-back then extended his arm and both shook hands before parting ways ahead of the match resuming.

Timber has since posted a series of photos from the game on Instagram afterwards, but none from that incident. The caption reads: "Another derby win. (red heart emoji)."

A number of Arsenal teammates liked his post, including Benjamin White, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Riccardo Calafiori and William Saliba. Calafiori also commented by posting three applause emojis.

In a separate post, Timber shared images from his arrival to join the Netherlands national team. The first is a black-and-white image of him stepping out of a car.

Another picture shows him wearing an open light blue denim jacket - and matching jeans - with a white tee-shirt underneath and the same colour trainers while dragging his black rolling suitcase behind him.

"I'm happy to be back! (Netherlands flag emoji)" the caption reads. Gabriel Magalhaes commented with a fire emoji - as did his compatriot Justin Kluivert - while Saliba went for a cold face emoji.
