As of writing this, the Rockets are in second place in the Western Conference. It's a remarkable achievement that they might actually reach a 50-win season and get home court advantage for at least part of the postseason. While they have virtually no chance of catching the Thunder, they will have ample opportunity to put other teams behind them with a rough closing month of the season.
Here is a rundown of the most important games over the final few weeks.
March 23, April 13 - Denver Nuggets
The team they are tied with in the standings count for two of their 13 remaining games. After a tough start, the Nuggets have been on quite a roll, but so has Houston. The fact that they will face Denver the last game of the season means seeding could (and may very well) depend on winning or losing game 82. No less important, however, is the one in Denver in just a few days.
March 31, April 11 - LA Lakers
The Lakers are two games back in the win column. One win gives the Rockets the tie breaker, but they will have to do it in Los Angeles because both games, including the second to last of the season, are on the road.
April 4 - OKC Thunder
It probably won't matter much in the standings, but a win at home against OKC would certainly be a morale boost. And given it is in the final week of the season, the Rockets may need every win they can get.
April 6 - Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are four-and-a-half games back of the Rockets in the conference, but they have been absolute torture for Houston for years now. This game will be part of the final three-game road trip of the season that includes the Lakers and the Clippers.
