The initial flurry of free agent activity has subsided but there are plenty more moves to make, especially if you’re a team like the Jets who are shopping in the bargain bucket.
The Jets still have a lot of questions to answer at wide receiver if they’re going to give Justin Fields a fighting chance.
Right now we have Garrett Wilson and a lot of question marks. We signed Tyler Johnson who has 76 catches and 828 yards and 4 touchdowns over 5 years and 49 games played.
We have Allen Lazard who’s been given permission to seek a trade, 2nd-year man Malachi Corley who had a disastrous rookie season and then a lot of depth pieces like Xavier Gipson, Irvin Charles, Brandon Smith, Ontaria Wilson, Easop Winston and Marcus Riley.
In short, if you’re a receiver looking to play and prove a point, we’re a good destination.
Yesterday Field Yates revealed that the Jets had hosted 24-year-old former [Arizona Cardinals](https://www.revengeofthebirds.com/) 2nd-round pick Rondale Moore on a visit. Moore signed with Atlanta last season but a knee injury sustained in training camp meant he missed the entire 2024 season.
Before his year in Atlanta he spent three years in Arizona where he was reliable if unspectacular.
In three years he’s caught 135 passes for 1,201 yards and 3 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 249 yards and 8 touchdowns. So while he’s never quite lived up to the billing, contributing 11 touchdowns and 1,500 yards in three seasons isn’t bad.
As a freshman at Purdue he had 2,048 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns and despite two quieter years in 2019 and 2020, the Cardinals spent a 2nd round pick on him following his 4.32 forty time at his pro-day.
He played for Kliff Kingsbury and Jonathan Gannon before being traded to the Falcons. His most successful season came as a rookie where he posted 54 catches for 435 yards and 1 touchdown and had a drop rate of 3.3%. The drops became aa bigger problem in year two with that drop percentage rising to 8.9% before jumping again in 2023 to 11.1%.
Rondale Moore is interesting because he’s still extremely young and like a lot of signings for the Jets, he’s coming off his rookie contract and has a point to prove. With a creative offensive coordinator he could be a very interesting addition, the big question is whether he’s fully recovered from that knee injury and how much has the injury impacted his speed.
For the right price, I think signing Rondale Moore is very attractive for a team with a lot of questions at the position. It’s the definition of a low cost-high reward signing.
