Manchester United have confirmed the plan to continue to play at Old Trafford why the new £2bn stadium is built adjacent to the current stadium.
Plans to build a new 100,000 seater stadium were announced by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last week. The new stadium will be built on the same site as 115-year-old Old Trafford.

There has been talk over either a regeneration of Old Trafford or the building of a new stadium since Ratcliffe’s takeover of a minority stake in the club just over a year ago. The announcement, along with conceptual images and scaled models designed by architect Lord Norman Foster were unveiled last Tuesday.
Chief executive Omar Berrada confirmed that the club is aiming to move into the new stadium for the 2030/31 season. Plans for what will happen once work starts on United’s new home have now been confirmed by Foster + Partners architect Patrick Campbell.
"The idea is to make sure that Manchester United can continue to play in Old Trafford throughout this whole process," he told the club’s official website. "So we're locating the new stadium broadly in the middle of the Bridgewater Canal and the railway line, just to the west of the existing stadium."
The proposed 450 metre processional route to the ground would go across the current Old Trafford pitch, with the architect hinting that part of the current Turf used at Old Trafford could be used in the design.
“How does the existing stadium form part of the new chapter?” he said. “What elements of that — is it the penalty spot, the halfway line, how can that manifest itself along the processional route?”

It was also hinted that the route to the new stadium could be the new home for the Trinity Statue.
