Report now suggests Newcastle United are ready to smash wage structure once again to keep…

Alexander Isak scored the winning goal on Sunday that saw Newcastle United end 56 years of trophy-free misery.

The Swedish striker has been playing at a world-class level this season for Newcastle United, scoring goals for fun, so it was only fitting that he should find himself on the scoresheet in the club's biggest game of the season.

There has been endless speculation about the striker's future all season with Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly set to duke it out for his signature this summer.

In fact, in the wake of the Carabao Cup victory on Sunday, Liverpool-based outlets were comforting themselves by lying to themselves that Isak would sign for them in the summer.

Newcastle could be about to make Alexander Isak their best-paid player

Contract talks between Newcastle and Isak stalled earlier this season with both parties agreeing to wait until the end of the season to strike a deal. There's no rush with Isak currently contracted until 2028 anyway.

But with clubs circling, it seems that Alexander Isak can pretty much demand what he wants, especially after chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan instructed the club to resist any offers for him this summer.

Give Me Sport is now reporting that Newcastle are ready to smash their current wage structure again, after doing so to get Bruno Guimaraes to sign up to a new deal.

Newcastle may try to get Isak signed up before the end of the season

Bruno's deal saw the club break the £150,000-a-week mark, but it's expected that Isak could find himself beyond the £200k-a-week barrier.

Part of Isak's demands are that he is the highest earner at the club to reflect his importance to the club, and really, is anyone going to deny him that honour?

Give Me Sport even suggests that Newcastle may move quickly to get Isak signed up instead of waiting until the summer to avoid all the inevitable speculation.
