Mohamed Salah is not currently in negotiations with Saudi Pro League clubs over a free transfer, the division's general manager of marketing communications, Mohammed Basrawi, says. However, he also admits "doors have been opened" and names it as his desire to see the Liverpool talisman move to the Gulf state when the clock ticks down on the opportunity of a contract renewal on Merseyside.

With 54 goals and assists combined in 43 appearances this season, Salah continues to be Liverpool's most prolific man in front of goal. However, the challenge for Anfield higher-ups is to predict how long this supremacy will last, weighed against the cost they feel matches.

As such, a breakthrough in negotiations is yet to be announced approaching three months until the Egyptian will officially be counted as a free agent. Regarding that status, since January the 32-year-old has been eligible to negotiate with overseas clubs, but - based on his own statements and determination to prove himself the best at his job in the Premier League - he's not interested in projects elsewhere just yet.

The Saudi Pro League would be able to entice the player with the most lucrative contract offer available on the market. However, fears they are actively pressuring Liverpool have now been cut off from the source.

Taking part in an interview with Spanish publication Marca, SPL marketing chief Basrawi was asked: "Salah won't renew with Liverpool. Will he come to Saudi Arabia?"

In an honest response, he added: "He's one of the best in the world. He's very well-liked in the Arab community.

"I wish he'd come here; we've opened the doors for him but, I insist, we don't negotiate that - and we don't know anything about it now. Don't get hung up on just the big names, our job is more to raise the bar for everyone else."

The last words Salah delivered himself on his contract saga were that of disappointment - disappointment that no breakthrough had been made as of late-February that would lead to him entering direct talks with club chiefs, rather than his representatives taking part in talks behind closed doors on his behalf. Saudi interest dates back to summer 2023, when the Reds rejected an eye-watering £150million offer from Al-Ittihad.
