‘There are conditions’ for Wolves man to join club – Needs to choose between money and sentiment

Nélson Semedo can return to Benfica from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer but will need to reduce his wages drastically to do so.

That’s [according to A Bola](https://www.abola.pt/futebol/noticias/estas-sao-as-condicoes-para-nelson-semedo-voltar-ao-benfica-2025031911130167107), who provide their own take on Semedo’s potential return after it made front page news elsewhere in Portugal today.

[A report earlier today](http://sportwitness.co.uk/front-page-report-claims-move-for-wolves-player-advancing-club-betting-everything-to-close-transfer/) stated that Benfica are pushing to bring Semedo back to the club this summer when his contract with Wolves comes to an end. It even stated that he was now a priority target for the club.

A Bola reign that in slightly, reporting that ‘there are the conditions’ for Semedo to return and it is a scenario that would please the reds a lot.

However, ‘special context’ would be needed for the 31-year-old given the wages that he currently earns at Wolves.

On the one hand the doors are open to him, as they are to all Benfica’s former youth players, he’s out of contract in the summer and Benfica do need a right-back. That all speaks in his favour and in favour of the move, making him something of a ‘perfect match’.

However, he would only be able to return under ‘very special conditions’ and would have to give up a ‘good part’ of the wages that he is accustomed to at Wolves. They far exceed the wage cape of the Eagles squad.

That’s a problem as he cold look to continue his career somewhere more lucrative, such as Saudi Arabia, where clubs can provide him with a ‘golden end’ to his career financially.

It’s a question of whether the sentimental weight of a return to Benfica outweighs that for him. That needs to be worked out, and so a move is very much possible but there is nothing ‘truly concrete’ beyond desire at this point despite claims elsewhere.
