In a season marked by significant boardroom transitions, Liverpool Football Club continues to evolve its executive structure with another key appointment.
Following the high-profile return of Michael Edwards as Fenway Sports Group’s CEO of Football and the appointment of Richard Hughes as sporting director, the club has now confirmed its next leadership change
Earlier in March 2024, the club confirmed the return of Michael Edwards to lead the restructuring of Liverpool in a CEO of Football role at Fenway Sports Group.
This appointment gave Edwards “greater seniority than he held previously and with a wider remit,” according to FSG president Mike Gordon.
Alongside Edwards’ return, Richard Hughes was appointed as Liverpool’s new sporting director, officially taking on responsibilities at the AXA Training Centre on June 1, 2024.
Hughes joined after a decade as technical director at AFC Bournemouth.
In the latest development in Liverpool’s leadership restructuring, the club has announced that Craig Evans, currently serving as Vice President of Communications, will be promoted to the position of Senior Vice President of Communications effective June 1, 2025.
Evans, who has been with Liverpool FC since August 2011, will assume this elevated role following the departure of Susan Black, the club’s Director of Communications, who will be stepping down at the end of the current season after 14 years of distinguished service across multiple senior roles.

In his new position, Evans will take over Black’s communications responsibilities and lead the communications function across the entire club.
According to the club’s announcement, Evans will report directly to Jonathan Bamber, currently Liverpool FC’s Chief Legal Officer, who will simultaneously be promoted to Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer and will also become a trustee of the LFC Foundation.
Evans brings a wealth of experience to this elevated position. Prior to joining Liverpool in 2011, he served as Head of Group Communications & Marketing at WYG Group from 2009 to 2011. His earlier career included roles as Communications Manager at the Legal Services Commission from 2005 to 2009 and as Employee Communications & PR Manager at Corus from 2001 to 20054.
Academically, Evans enhanced his management credentials by completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Liverpool John Moores University between 2019 and 2021.
Evans’ promotion comes as Susan Black concludes a 12-year stint at Liverpool. Beyond her primary responsibilities as Director of Communications, Black has served as an Executive Director and Board Member of Liverpool FC Women and as a Board Member of the LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity.
