Arsenal are keeping a close eye on SC Freiburg’s goalkeeping sensation, Noah Atubolu, ahead of a potential move.
Arsenal have failed to live up to expectations in the ongoing campaign, and they are now expected to make significant changes to the squad this summer in a bid to strengthen key areas. While they will prioritise signing a new striker and a world-class midfielder, the Gunners will also be on the lookout for a new shot-stopper.
The North London club will be in the market for a new backup for David Raya, and according to a report from TBR, Mikel Arteta’s team are interested in the services of Noah Atubolu. They have been closely monitoring the German sensation and could end up pushing for his signature once the window reopens.
Atubolu has been a part of the Freiburg setup since 2015. He went up the ranks at some pace and has been a part of the first team since the summer of 2021. The 22-year-old has managed to establish himself as their first choice in goals.
So far, he has been featured in 72 matches and has managed to keep a clean sheet in 26 of those outings. As far as the ongoing campaign is concerned, Atubolu has 10 clean sheets in his 23 league fixtures. He is making quite a name for himself with his impressive performances.
The German youth international recently broke a club record of minutes played without conceding a goal as he went six matches without letting in a goal. He has even saved four penalties in a row for Freiburg this season.
Arsenal want to sign Atubolu
His sensational performances have put him on the radar of Arsenal, who are in the market for a new goalkeeper. The Gunners parted ways with Aaron Ramsdale last summer, and they ended up striking a deal with Bournemouth to sign Neto on a season-long loan.
While he has been the backup for the ongoing campaign, Neto is likely to return to his parent club having featured in just one outing this season. Since they do need to bring in a new goalkeeper, the Gunners want to sign someone who can cover for Raya and in the long run replace him.
They want someone who can continue to put pressure on the Spanish international and Atubolu can certainly help their cause. The North London club have been scouting him ahead of a potential move. While Joan Garcia is their priority target, they will face a lot of competition for his signature. As a result, Atubolu has emerged as a possible alternative for Mikel Arteta’s team.
