A former Brighton & Hove Albion player has revealed he was "close" to joining Leicester City last year.
Jakub Moder, a Poland international midfielder, left the Seagulls to join Dutch side Feyenoord in January despite being heavily linked with a move to the King Power Stadium. He was in search of regular first team football.
In conversation with Foot Truck, via Meczyki.pl, the 25-year-old revealed the Foxes had shown interest in him last summer and was close to making the move. Suffering a serious knee injury back in April 2022 saw him side-lined for more than 570 days, and upon return he didn't feature regularly under Roberto De Zerbi, leaving him looking for pastures new.

“I wanted to leave Brighton earlier," Moder explained. "Last summer, I was very close to Leicester City, but many things happened that the transfer didn’t work out, the transfer domino had to go, and I also had an injury.
"So, I wanted to leave in the summer, because I had a feeling what role awaited me at Brighton in the next six months. I would probably be at Leicester now, but would it be better? We don’t know. Now I’m at Feyenoord and it’s great."
Under now-Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler, Moder only managed nine minutes from four Premier League games. But that didn't stop him attracting interest from a host of European clubs, namely Udinese and VfB Stuttgart before opting for Feyenoord.
Moder added: "I considered Udinese. I spoke with Runjaić and Małecki. I was at a point in my career where I couldn’t close myself off to such a move. This is a club from Serie A, they are playing very good football this season, so I was definitely considering it.
"Ultimately, however, the Feyenoord project was the best for me. I was very excited that they wanted me. It was the best decision."
Since his move overseas in January, the midfield maestro has shown glimpses of why Leicester City were interested in his services, especially with his performances in the UEFA Champions League.
Feyenoord currently sit in 4th place in the Eredivisie, and were eliminated from Europe's top competition in the Round of 16 by Inter Milan.
With Ruud van Nistelrooy hoping to mastermind an unlikely great escape from being dumped out of the Premier League, who's to know whether anything would have been different had Moder moved to the East Midlands.
